BJP MLA Nagendra Singh Trapped for 18 Hours in Rewa Flood, Cleanup Underway

BJP legislator Nagendra Singh was stranded for more than 18 hours in floodwater at his riverside home in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. After the water receded, cleaning operations began at the residence.
Heavy rains caused the Behar River to overflow, inundating low‑lying areas of Rewa in Madhya Pradesh. The surge left several houses submerged, including the private residence of BJP MLA Nagendra Singh, located on the riverbank of his constituency.
According to local reports, Singh remained trapped in his home for more than 18 hours as floodwaters rose to waist level. Rescue teams from the district administration monitored the situation but were unable to reach the interior of the house until the water level began to fall.
By late evening, the river receded enough for officials to enter the premises. Municipal workers started clearing debris and removing silt that had accumulated inside the dwelling. The MLA’s office confirmed that the cleanup is ongoing and that the family is safe.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of riverside settlements in the region during the monsoon season, prompting calls for improved drainage and early warning systems.
State authorities have pledged to assess damage across the affected neighborhoods and to provide relief to families displaced by the flooding.
