Fugitive BJP councilor Vijay Yadav turned himself in before the Special Investigation Team on Sunday, was arrested and remanded to jail in connection with the Kishan Gupta murder in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh.
Vijay Yadav, a sitting councilor of the Bharatiya Janata Party, surrendered to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) outside its office in Khandwa on Sunday morning. The surrender came after a week of his being listed as a fugitive in the high-profile murder of Kishan Gupta.
Police immediately placed him under arrest and produced him before the local court, where the magistrate ordered his remand to judicial custody.
The Kishan Gupta case, which has drawn significant media attention in Madhya Pradesh, involves the killing of the local businessman in 2023. Investigators have linked several political figures to the crime, and Yadav's surrender is the latest development.
Authorities said Yadav will remain in jail pending further hearings, and the SIT will continue its probe to determine the full extent of any involvement.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns about political interference in criminal investigations in the state.
