The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has objected to the Himachal Pradesh government's decision to take a fresh loan of Rs 600 crore, citing concerns over fiscal prudence. The party demanded transparency and justification for the borrowing.
BJP leaders in Himachal Pradesh said the state government’s move to secure an additional Rs 600 crore loan raises questions about its debt management and repayment capacity.
They pointed out that the state already carries a significant debt burden and warned that fresh borrowing could affect future budgets and social welfare spending.
The BJP demanded that the government present a detailed plan showing how the borrowed funds will be used, and called for a debate in the state assembly on the matter.
In response, the Himachal Pradesh government said the loan is meant for infrastructure projects and will be serviced through existing revenue streams, asserting that it follows all financial norms.
