BJP challenges Congress over Uttarakhand power generation after Adani deal

BJP leaders argued that the Congress has not provided a clear policy framework to attract private investment in the state’s electricity sector.

The Adani agreement, announced earlier this month, involves the development of several renewable and thermal power plants aimed at addressing Uttarakhand’s chronic power shortages. The BJP said the deal demonstrates the ruling coalition’s commitment to boosting capacity, while Congress’s ambiguous stance could deter further private participation.

Congress has not yet issued a detailed response, but party spokespersons have previously emphasized the need for transparent bidding and environmental safeguards in any large‑scale project. The debate comes as both parties vie for voter support ahead of the upcoming state elections, making energy policy a focal point of political discourse in the Himalayan state.
