Scientists at BITS Pilani Goa have engineered a pharmaceutical polymer-based bioink that can be used to 3D print skin scaffolds and deliver drugs in a customized manner.

Researchers from the BITS Pilani Goa campus have announced the development of a new bioink composed of pharmaceutical-grade polymers. The material is designed for use in 3D printing skin scaffolds that can support tissue regeneration and also enable precise, customized drug delivery. The bioink’s formulation allows it to be extruded through standard bioprinters while maintaining cell viability and structural integrity. Experts say the technology could accelerate the production of personalized skin grafts for burn victims and improve targeted therapy for chronic wounds. The team plans to collaborate with clinical partners to test the scaffolds in preclinical studies.
