Bihar's Vikramshila Bridge Damage Sparks Row Between Energy Minister and JD(U) MP

The recently reported damage to the Vikramshila bridge over the Ganges in Bhagalpur has become a flashpoint between two senior political figures. Energy Minister Bulo Mandal said the bridge’s deterioration was caused by natural factors and assured that reconstruction work would proceed as scheduled.

Mandal emphasized that the bridge’s structural issues stemmed from river erosion and seasonal wear, promising that the ongoing repair plan would be completed within the originally set timeline. He urged local authorities to focus on technical solutions rather than political speculation.

In contrast, JD(U) MP Ajay Kumar Mandal accused the government of negligence, arguing that inadequate maintenance led to the bridge’s failure. He called for an immediate audit of the project and warned that such lapses could jeopardise public safety.
