A new double‑track rail bridge between Simaria and Mokama, costing about ₹2400 crore, has begun regular operations. The first train to cross was the Koshi Express from Purnia to Hatiya.
The newly constructed double‑track rail bridge spanning the Ganga between Simaria and Mokama has officially entered service after a successful trial run by the Koshi Express. The 2400‑crore project, completed by the Indian Railways, was designed to enhance connectivity in Bihar’s eastern corridor.
The bridge, which links the Purnia–Hatiya route to the mainline, will allow trains to run on three parallel tracks, significantly boosting the line’s capacity and reducing congestion. Officials said the structure will also improve safety and reduce travel time for both passenger and freight traffic.
The Koshi Express, a daily service between Purnia and Hatiya, was the first train to cross the new span on its scheduled run. Passengers reported smooth passage and timely arrival, marking a milestone for the region’s rail network.
Railway authorities plan to roll out regular services on the bridge soon, with expectations of increased freight movement and better regional connectivity.
