The Bihar agriculture department has launched a scheme to install eight biogas plants and subsidise 1,300 vermi‑compost pits in Nalanda, offering a 50% grant and online application facilities.
The agriculture department of Bihar announced a targeted programme for Nalanda district aimed at easing farmers' financial burden from rising electricity, LPG and chemical fertilizer costs. Under the scheme, eight biogas plants will be set up during the current financial year, providing renewable energy for on‑farm use.
In parallel, the department will subsidise 1,300 vermi‑compost pits at a rate of 50% of the installation cost. The organic manure produced is expected to reduce dependence on synthetic fertilizers and improve soil health.
Applications for both the biogas and vermi‑compost projects can now be submitted online through the department's portal, streamlining the process for eligible farmers. The initiative reflects the state government's push for sustainable agriculture and cost‑effective inputs for smallholders.
