Bihar’s Flood Threat Diminishes After Severe Floods Hit Nepal

Heavy monsoon rains over the Himalayas triggered flash floods in several districts of Nepal, displacing thousands and damaging infrastructure. River systems that originate in Nepal, including the Kosi and Gandak, swelled rapidly as water rushed downstream.
In Bihar, authorities had raised alerts as the swollen tributaries threatened to overflow, prompting the state disaster management unit to mobilise rescue teams and pre‑position relief supplies along vulnerable riverbanks.
By late evening, water levels in the border rivers began to recede, and the state’s flood warning was downgraded. Officials attributed the decline to the gradual release of water from upstream reservoirs and the natural drainage of floodwaters into the plains.
The state government has urged residents to stay vigilant but confirmed that immediate flood danger has passed, while continuing to monitor river gauges for any sudden changes.
Preparedness measures, including sandbagging and community awareness drives, remain in place as the monsoon season progresses.
