The Bihar government has started a digital archive of land records dating back to 1908. 77.8 lakh documents are live on the portal, allowing citizens to view and download records from home.
The Bihar government has launched a comprehensive digitisation project to make land records from 1908 to 1995 accessible online. The initiative aims to digitise about 5.15 crore documents, covering nearly nine decades of land ownership and transactions.
So far, 77.8 lakh records have been uploaded to the state’s land records portal. Users can search by village, land parcel number or owner name and download PDFs of the original documents.
The move is expected to reduce paperwork, curb disputes and improve transparency for farmers, buyers and government officials. Citizens can now verify land titles without travelling to district offices.
The government plans to complete the digitisation of the remaining records within the next two years, with a dedicated team working on quality checks and metadata tagging.
