The state of Bihar has entered into a memorandum of understanding aimed at reviving its major rivers while simultaneously improving highway infrastructure.

Bihar’s administration has formally signed a memorandum of understanding that links river restoration projects with the development of the state’s highway network. The agreement was concluded by senior state officials and representatives of the agencies responsible for water resources and road construction.

The MoU outlines a coordinated approach to clean and rejuvenate key river systems that have suffered from pollution and seasonal flooding. Parallel to the ecological work, the plan calls for the widening and strengthening of selected highway stretches to improve connectivity and support economic activity.

Funding for the twin initiatives will be drawn from state allocations and central government schemes focused on water management and infrastructure. Officials expect the projects to commence within the next few months, with periodic reviews to assess progress and impact.

By coupling environmental restoration with transport upgrades, the state aims to address long‑standing challenges of flood control, water quality and regional mobility, aligning with broader national goals for sustainable development.
