Bihar Eliminates Physical Verification for New 150 kW Electricity Connections

The Bihar electricity board has scrapped physical verification for new connections up to 150 kW, introducing a load‑based fee and direct installation of service lines and meters.
The Bihar State Electricity Board announced that physical verification will no longer be required for new domestic or commercial electricity connections up to 150 kilowatts. The policy shift aims to streamline the connection process and reduce the time consumers spend waiting for approval.
Under the new regime, applicants will pay a standard fee that varies according to the load they request. The fee schedule replaces the earlier practice of site visits and manual checks, making the cost structure transparent and predictable for users.
The board will now dispatch its own crews to lay the service line and install the meter at the consumer’s premises. Installation will be scheduled after the fee is received, and the entire procedure is expected to be completed within a few days, subject to technical feasibility.
Officials say the change will benefit both urban and rural customers by cutting bureaucratic delays and lowering the chances of corruption. The board has urged consumers to submit accurate load details to avoid mismatched billing later.
