Bihar CM Samrat Chaudhary orders swift repair of faulty street lights in Patna, aims solar upgrade

Patna – In a review of the city’s street‑lighting scheme, Bihar’s Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary instructed the Patna Municipal Corporation to replace or repair every defective lamp within the shortest possible time. The directive was issued during a meeting that examined the current performance of the municipal lighting network and the pending rollout of solar‑based fixtures.

The CM emphasized that functional street lighting is essential for public safety and economic activity after dark, and that a swift overhaul will reduce power outages and curb electricity costs. He also urged the corporation to prioritize the installation of solar panels on new poles, aligning the project with the state’s broader renewable‑energy goals.

Officials from the municipal corporation have been asked to submit a detailed action plan by the end of the week, outlining the number of faulty units, repair schedules and budget allocations for the solar transition. The plan will be monitored by the state’s Department of Energy to ensure timely execution.

If completed as directed, Patna’s streets are expected to become brighter and more energy‑efficient, setting a precedent for other urban centres in Bihar to adopt sustainable lighting solutions.
