The Bihar government has cleared two major road projects—a 336‑km six‑lane greenfield expressway linking Buxar and Phaglaur, and a four‑lane highway connecting Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi and Sonbarsa—aimed at boosting state connectivity.

The state cabinet gave the green light to a 336‑kilometre, six‑lane Buxar‑Phaglaur greenfield expressway, a project designed to streamline traffic flow across northern Bihar. In parallel, a four‑lane corridor linking Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi and Sonbarsa received approval, expanding the road network in the region's eastern districts.

Both initiatives are part of a broader effort to strengthen Bihar's intra‑state connectivity and reduce travel times for commuters and freight operators. The projects are expected to attract private investment and generate employment during the construction phase.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the state's commitment to infrastructure development, noting that such projects are vital for economic growth and regional integration. Detailed project reports and funding mechanisms are slated for finalisation in the coming weeks.

The expressway and highway are slated to be built as greenfield ventures, meaning new alignments will be created rather than upgrading existing roads. This approach aims to minimise land acquisition challenges and ensure higher design standards.

Construction timelines have not been disclosed, but officials indicated that work will commence once clearances are secured, with an eye on completing the projects within the next few years.
