Bidar Farmer Sachin Rakhe Struggles with Debt Burden
Bidar: Young farmer Sachin Rakhe from Islam Poor village in Bidar district took a loan of four lakh rupees three years ago from State Bank of India under his father's name to start modern farming on his father's land. Despite his enthusiasm, the severe rains last year destroyed his crops, and he could not repay the loan installment at the bank.
This year, due to insufficient rainfall, Sachin's crops again failed, pushing the family into financial distress. Bank officials' harsh actions have caused great anguish to Sachin, leading him to contemplate seeking refuge in extreme distress. Residents of Besata village have expressed their anger towards the bank officers and urged the state government to take immediate steps to prevent farmers from falling into debt traps and to provide assistance to distressed farmers like Sachin to avoid tragic consequences such as suicide.
The state government has so far made only announcements regarding loan recovery relief, but the public awaits concrete measures to prevent further farmer suicides in the region.
