Amalapur Cemetery Land Dispute: Villagers appeal not to take away farmers' land
Bidar: Villagers have appealed to the district administration to resolve the dispute over cemetery land in Amalapur village of Bidar South assembly constituency at the earliest and protect the rights and interests of the farmers related to 4 acres 38 guntes of land.
In this context, villager Ambadas Saine and activists have submitted a request to the Additional District Collector, Assistant Commissioner of Bidar Sub-Division, Tahsildar and Deputy Conservator of Forest Department to thoroughly examine the Amalapur cemetery land dispute, correct the cadastral-holding records of the farmers' 4 acres 38 guntes of land, and provide cemetery land on alternative government land.
There is no disturbance at the place where the Scheduled Caste community has been conducting cremations in the village for many years. However, the villagers have alleged that a new dispute has been created due to the insistence that the land of a specific farmer should be acquired in the matter of cemetery land allocation.
About 40 years ago, due to water ingress during excavation of the land allocated for the cemetery, cremation was allowed in a corner of the agricultural land as an alternative. Due to this, the villagers said that houses have been built in some parts of the 1 acre 39 gunte cemetery land allocated in Survey No. 72/*.
Although the process of allocating two acres of alternative cemetery land according to the population was carried out two years ago, the problem has continued due to the insistence that the disputed land should be given for the cemetery, they said.
The villagers have alleged that the government has promised to provide alternative government land but is not accepting it and is staging a sit-in for the land of a specific farmer. They have demanded that the issue be resolved by taking the views of all the families involved in this matter and ensuring that no one is wronged.
The villagers said that there had been a dispute in the past regarding the construction of houses sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and the case was settled with the mediation of police and revenue department officials.
