The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has selected Bhubaneswar and Puri as part of its PRAGATI 50 program to become model cities for sanitation.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) announced that Bhubaneswar and Puri have been chosen under its PRAGATI 50 initiative, a flagship scheme aimed at transforming 50 cities into sanitation models.
The selection follows a rigorous assessment of infrastructure, waste management practices, and community engagement. Both cities have demonstrated significant progress in solid waste segregation, composting, and public awareness campaigns.
As part of the program, the cities will receive technical assistance, funding, and capacity‑building support to scale up sanitation solutions, including the deployment of smart waste collection systems and the construction of eco‑sanitation facilities.
Officials said the initiative will help replicate best practices across other urban areas and accelerate India’s goal of achieving universal sanitation coverage by 2030.
