On Dhanteras, Bhopal’s markets recorded an estimated turnover of about ₹1,000 crore, driven by strong demand for gold, silver, automobiles and a range of consumer goods.
Bhopal’s traditional markets saw a massive surge in sales on Dhanteras, with traders estimating total transactions close to ₹1,000 crore. The festive buying rush covered jewellery, electronics, household items and clothing, reflecting the city’s robust consumer confidence despite rising inflation.
The historic Sarafa market, known for its gold and silver stalls, contributed between ₹200 crore and ₹250 crore to the overall figure. Meanwhile, the automobile segment recorded sales of roughly ₹120 crore to ₹140 crore, as shoppers purchased two‑wheelers and cars as part of the auspicious purchase tradition.
Other categories such as electronic gadgets, kitchenware, sweets, garments, furniture and groceries also posted strong numbers, adding to the festive atmosphere across Bhopal’s shopping districts. Analysts noted that while the sales volume was impressive, it did little to ease the pressure of inflation on everyday consumers.
Market officials said the high turnover underscores the cultural importance of Dhanteras as a prime buying occasion, but warned that sustained price rises could temper future spending. The data, sourced from local trade associations, will be monitored closely as retailers prepare for the upcoming Diwali period.
