Bhopal's municipal corporation announced that the city's Ganesh festival will commence on Monday, with idols set up at about 1,800 locations across the capital. The extensive rollout is part of the annual celebration that draws devotees from across Madhya Pradesh.
In a bid to make the festivities environmentally friendly, officials have pledged a zero‑waste approach, banning the use of polyethylene and other single‑use plastics at all venues. Waste segregation bins and biodegradable materials will be provided to ensure that the celebrations leave minimal ecological footprint.
For the first time, the corporation will award stalls that adhere to the zero‑waste guidelines, encouraging vendors to adopt sustainable practices. The initiative reflects a growing emphasis on eco‑conscious public events in Indian cities.
