The Madhya Pradesh Food Safety Department’s inspection of 35 establishments in Bhopal revealed non‑compliant samples of cheese, milk, ghee, sweets and snacks, leading to prosecution approvals and fines exceeding Rs 6.5 lakh.
The Food Safety Department of Madhya Pradesh conducted a surprise inspection across Bhopal, sampling food items from more than three dozen shops and hotels. A total of 35 premises were examined, and each yielded at least one sample that failed to meet the prescribed safety standards.
Investigators focused on a range of dairy and snack products, including paneer, milk, ghee, confectionery and savory items. Laboratory analysis showed that many of the samples were either adulterated or falsely labelled, rendering them unfit for human consumption.
Based on the findings, the department granted prosecution approval in over 35 cases. The establishments have been ordered to pay penalties that together amount to more than Rs 6.5 lakh, and they face possible closure until corrective measures are implemented.
Officials reiterated that rigorous monitoring is essential to protect consumers, especially in a city where street‑food culture is vibrant. They urged vendors to adhere strictly to food‑safety norms to avoid future violations.
