Police in Bhavnagar have taken into custody Rais, dubbed ‘Purana Badmaash’, for his alleged role in a poisoned liquor network.
Bhavnagar police announced the arrest of a man identified as Rais, locally nicknamed “Purana Badmaash”, in connection with a large‑scale trafficking of adulterated liquor that allegedly caused several health incidents. The suspect was detained after investigators linked him to the supply chain that distributed the contaminated alcohol across the city.
According to the investigation, Rais had previously been associated with a separate violent episode in Devas, commonly referred to as the “gun incident”. After that episode, he reportedly shifted his activities to Ujjain, where he continued to work while maintaining close ties with residents of the Shikari‑Gali area near Bafna Park Colony.
Sources say that for the past seven to eight years Rais has operated in collaboration with local contacts in the Bhavnagar region, using these networks to facilitate the movement of illicit liquor. The police have not disclosed further details about the quantity seized or the number of victims, pending ongoing inquiries.
Authorities have stated that the case will be investigated under the state's excise and narcotics laws, and that additional arrests may follow as the probe expands.
