Bhasma Aarti at Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple Features Sun‑Moon Adorned Idol and Open Third Eye

Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple held its weekly Bhasma Aarti on Wednesday morning, drawing a large congregation of worshippers. The ritual, a core part of the temple’s daily schedule, involves offering sacred ash to the deity and chanting traditional hymns.
For this occasion, priests performed a special alankar, adorning the idol of Baba Mahakal with golden representations of the sun and moon, as well as a trishul. The embellishment is intended to symbolize cosmic balance and the deity’s supreme authority over time.
Midway through the ceremony, the third eye (trinetra) of the idol was ceremonially opened, an event that devotees consider a divine sign. The moment was met with audible awe as the crowd observed the luminous glow emanating from the deity’s forehead.
Following the ash offering, the sanctum resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal,” echoing through the temple precincts and reinforcing the collective devotion of the assembled pilgrims.
