A photograph resembling freedom fighter Bhagat Singh was found on a voter’s entry in Ludhiana East, prompting the Election Commission of India to label the claim as misleading.

During a routine verification of the electoral roll for the Ludhiana East assembly segment, officials noticed that a voter’s photograph appeared to be a portrait of the iconic freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. The image, which was posted on a publicly accessible version of the list, quickly went viral on social media, leading many to question its authenticity.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) responded that the picture is not an official voter photograph but a placeholder or erroneous upload. According to the commission, no registered voter in the constituency bears the name Bhagat Singh, and the presence of the image is a clerical mistake rather than an intentional substitution.

The ECI warned the public against drawing conclusions from such anomalies and urged voters to refer only to verified data on the official portal. It also announced that the erroneous entry will be corrected in the next update of the roll and that a review of the data‑entry process will be undertaken to prevent similar incidents.

While the incident has sparked debate about the integrity of electoral records, authorities have not indicated any legal ramifications at this stage. The commission’s focus remains on ensuring the accuracy of the voter list ahead of upcoming elections.
