The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for Bengaluru through August 24 as light rain showers continue, while the state’s monsoon deficit stands at 31%.
Light rain showers moved across Bengaluru on Thursday, prompting the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) to extend a weather warning until August 24. The advisory advises residents to stay alert for possible localized flooding and to exercise caution while travelling.
The IMD also reported that Karnataka’s monsoon deficit has widened to 31%, indicating that the state has received only about two‑thirds of its normal seasonal rainfall. This shortfall follows a series of below‑normal monsoon spells across the region.
Officials warned that the deficit could affect water reservoirs, agricultural sowing schedules and power generation, urging farmers and local authorities to adopt water‑saving measures as the monsoon season progresses.
