Farmers from Sahrad village in Baran staged a protest at the district collectorate, preparing dal‑bati and placing it before the collector’s vehicle, urging authorities to clear illegal occupation of pasture land.

Baran district officials faced an unusual demonstration on Thursday when a group of farmers from Sahrad village gathered outside the collectorate. The protest centered on the removal of illegal encroachments on a designated grazing field that the farmers say has been taken over by non‑agricultural occupants.

In a symbolic act, the protesters set up a makeshift kitchen, cooked traditional dal‑bati and placed the steaming plates directly in front of the collector’s car. The gesture was intended to highlight the farmers’ reliance on the pasture for livestock and to underscore the urgency of restoring the land.

The demonstrators warned that if the encroachment is not cleared promptly, they will commence a hunger strike, refusing food until their demands are met. They described the hunger strike as a last resort after previous appeals yielded no concrete action.

As of now, district authorities have not issued a formal response, and the situation remains under close observation. The farmers have called for immediate intervention to protect their livelihood and the communal grazing resource.
