All banks across India will be closed on October 20, 2026, in observance of Dussehra, as per the RBI’s official holiday list. Digital banking services will remain operational.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that all banks nationwide will be closed on October 20, 2026, in observance of Dussehra. This date is listed in the RBI’s official holiday calendar for the fiscal year 2026‑27.
The closure will affect all commercial banks, cooperative banks, and public sector banks, as well as their branches and ATMs. Customers will not be able to conduct cash deposits, withdrawals, or any other in‑branch transactions on that day.
However, electronic banking channels—including internet banking, mobile banking, and UPI—will remain fully functional. The RBI has urged customers to plan their financial activities in advance and to use digital platforms for any urgent transactions.
Bank employees will resume normal operations on October 21, 2026. The RBI’s announcement also reminded the public that post offices and other government offices will remain open on the holiday.
Financial advisors recommend that individuals and businesses avoid scheduling critical payments or fund transfers on the holiday to prevent delays.
