On Raksha Bandhan, devotees at Baba Mahakal Temple in Ujjain presented the first Rakhi, six specially tied rakhis and more than 125,000 laddus as Mahabhog, completing their Shravan fast.

Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh – During the early morning bhasm aarti at the Baba Mahakal Temple, priests presented the first Rakhi of the day to the deity, marking the start of the Raksha Bandhan celebrations. Six specially prepared rakhis, each tied with distinct motifs, were offered alongside the ceremonial thread.

The ritual was accompanied by a massive Mahabhog in which more than 125,000 laddus were placed before the deity. The sheer volume of sweets drew large crowds of devotees who gathered to witness the offering and to receive prasad.

Devotees, many of whom were observing the month‑long Shravan fast, considered the ceremony a spiritual culmination of their vows. After the aarti, they partook in the prasad, believing it would bring protection and blessings for the year ahead.

Temple officials said the event follows a long‑standing tradition of honoring Baba Mahakal on Raksha Bandhan, emphasizing the bond of protection symbolised by the Rakhi. Security and crowd‑management measures were in place to ensure a smooth flow of worshippers.

The ceremony concluded with chants and the distribution of the remaining laddus among the assembled crowd, reinforcing the communal spirit of the festival.
