Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh is hosting its annual Deepotsav today, a large‑scale illumination ceremony that celebrates the city’s religious significance.
The state tourism department has coordinated the lighting of roughly 30 lakh (3 million) oil lamps across temples, ghats and public areas, creating a spectacular glow along the banks of the Sarayu River.
A total of 2,147 priests from various shrines will conduct the Sarayu Maha Aarti at the river ghats, a ritual that traditionally draws thousands of devotees.
The festivities will be complemented by a synchronized drone light show over the river, choreographed to devotional music.
Authorities have deployed additional security personnel and traffic‑management measures to handle the expected crowd and ensure safety throughout the event.
