Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Assam government will create a new Youth Welfare Department to address youth issues and promote skill development.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Assam government will establish a dedicated Youth Welfare Department. The move aims to consolidate existing schemes and launch new initiatives targeting education, employment, and skill training for the state's young population.
The department will coordinate with existing ministries to streamline funding and monitor the impact of youth-oriented programs. Officials said it will also serve as a single-point interface for NGOs and private partners working on youth development.
While the primary focus is on welfare and empowerment, the announcement also hinted at measures to encourage investment in crude oil exploration within the state, linking energy sector growth with youth employment opportunities.
The government plans to appoint a senior bureaucrat as the department head and expects the new body to become operational by the end of the fiscal year.
