Assam to Adopt Full Paperless E‑Office System from Jan 1 2027

The Assam government announced that all its departments will switch to a completely paperless e‑Office system starting 1 January 2027.
Assam's state administration has confirmed that from 1 January 2027 every department will operate under a fully digital e‑Office framework, eliminating the use of physical paperwork. The decision was disclosed in an official statement released by the state government, outlining a phased rollout that will culminate in a complete transition by the start of 2027.
The e‑Office system, already in use in several central ministries, is expected to streamline document handling, reduce processing time and cut down on the state's annual paper consumption. Officials said the platform will enable electronic filing, digital signatures and online tracking of files across all levels of bureaucracy.
Implementation will involve upgrading IT infrastructure in district and departmental offices, training staff on the new software and establishing secure data repositories. The government has earmarked resources for the project but did not disclose the exact budget.
By moving to a paperless environment, Assam aims to align with the broader national push for digital governance and improve service delivery to citizens, while also contributing to environmental sustainability.
