A minority student organization in Assam has publicly backed the BJP-led alliance’s candidate for the Nagaon constituency, signalling its political preference ahead of upcoming polls.
The Assam Minority Students' Body, a representative organization of minority student communities in the state, announced its support for the candidate fielded by the BJP-led alliance in the Nagaon constituency. The endorsement was conveyed through a statement released by the body, highlighting its belief that the candidate aligns with the aspirations of minority students.
The move comes as political parties intensify outreach to diverse voter groups ahead of the scheduled state assembly elections. By backing the alliance’s nominee, the student body aims to influence the electoral discourse and ensure that minority concerns are addressed in the campaign agenda.
Election officials have not yet released the final list of candidates for Nagaon, and the BJP-led alliance has not commented publicly on the endorsement. The endorsement adds another dimension to the competitive political landscape in Assam, where community affiliations often play a pivotal role in voter behavior.
Stakeholders, including other student groups and civil society organisations, are expected to monitor how this endorsement translates into voter mobilisation on the ground as the election timetable approaches.
The Economic Times reported the development, noting its potential impact on the dynamics of the Nagaon contest.
