Chief Ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam and Conrad Sangma of Meghalaya convened a meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The three leaders discussed the need to accelerate and expand externally aided development projects across the Northeast region.
The ministers highlighted that several infrastructure, health and education initiatives in the eight‑state area rely on foreign assistance and central funding. They argued that a stronger financial push would help meet the region's growth targets and improve connectivity.
Sitharaman acknowledged the concerns and indicated that the finance ministry would review the existing allocations and explore additional resources to bolster the projects. The meeting underscored the states' collective push for greater central support in line with the government's Northeast development agenda.
