Assam’s railways have rolled out Vistadome services on two key corridors, linking Guwahati with Naharlagun and Naharlagun with Tinsukia. The new trains, equipped with large panoramic windows, aim to boost tourism and provide a scenic travel experience across the state’s lush landscapes.
The Guwahati‑Naharlagun Vistadome train operates twice daily, covering the 120‑km stretch in approximately 4 hours. The Naharlagun‑Tinsukia service, covering 140 km, runs once a day and connects the capital with the industrial hub of Tinsukia.
Each Vistadome coach features 50 seats arranged in a 2‑3 configuration, with a dedicated observation deck and a glass roof that allows passengers to view the hills, rivers, and tea gardens as the train moves through the hills of Upper Assam.
Railway officials say the introduction of these services will not only enhance passenger comfort but also stimulate local economies by making remote tourist spots more accessible. The trains are expected to run throughout the year, with special schedules during peak holiday seasons.
