The Assam government announced the expansion of its Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu scholarship schemes, with the first instalment disbursed to 5.42 lakh students.
Guwahati, Assam – The state administration said it will broaden the reach of the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes, flagship programmes aimed at supporting school‑going children from economically weaker sections. Under the first phase, the government released the initial instalment to 5.42 lakh eligible students across the state.
The expansion is expected to cover additional districts and increase the number of beneficiaries, officials said, though exact figures were not disclosed. Both schemes provide cash assistance to help families meet educational expenses such as uniforms, books and transport.
State Education Minister highlighted that timely disbursement of funds will encourage higher attendance and reduce dropout rates. The government plans to monitor the rollout closely and issue further instalments as per the academic calendar.
