Assam has honored the legendary 15th‑century ruler Sukapha, highlighting the state's historical ties to the east.

Assam recently held a ceremony to honor Sukapha, the 15th‑century founder of the Ahom dynasty, underscoring the state's deep-rooted eastern heritage. The event, organized by the Assam Cultural Affairs Department, saw officials and historians gather at the Sukapha Memorial in Guwahati. The memorial, which features a bronze statue of the ruler, was illuminated in a candlelit procession that attracted thousands of visitors.

Sukapha is credited with establishing the Ahom kingdom in 1228 and laying the foundations of Assam’s political and cultural identity. By commemorating him, Assam’s leaders aim to reinforce regional pride and remind the populace of the state's historical significance in the eastern part of India.

The Chief Minister of Assam, who presided over the ceremony, emphasized that remembering Sukapha is a step toward preserving Assam’s unique legacy and fostering unity among its diverse communities.
