Assam CM Highlights Mining Dependency of Flood‑Hit Sivasagar and Charaideo Residents

Assam Chief Minister said that residents in flood‑affected Sivasagar and Charaideo districts rely on mining jobs in Nagaland for their livelihoods.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the media today, noting that people in the flood‑hit districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo are heavily dependent on mining employment in neighboring Nagaland.

The statement came amid reports of widespread flooding in the two districts, where heavy monsoon rains have caused rivers to overflow and displaced thousands of families.

According to the CM, a significant portion of the affected population works in the mining sector across the Nagaland border, and the disruption caused by the floods has severely impacted their income and livelihoods.

The government has pledged to provide relief and explore alternative livelihood options for those whose work in mining has been disrupted by the water‑logged conditions.
