Assam CM Calls New Myanmar Drug Route 'Very Worrying'

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the emergence of a fresh drug trafficking corridor from Myanmar into the state is "very worrying". He highlighted that the route could facilitate the flow of illicit narcotics into Assam's border districts and pose a threat to public safety.

The chief minister assured that state law‑enforcement agencies are already coordinating with central security forces to monitor the corridor closely. He urged swift action to disrupt any smuggling networks that may exploit the new pathway.

Sarma also called for heightened vigilance among local communities and border officials, emphasizing that collective effort is essential to curb the spread of illegal drugs across the region.
