Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma warned that a newly identified narcotics corridor from Myanmar into the state is a serious security concern.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the emergence of a fresh drug trafficking corridor from Myanmar into the state is "very worrying". He highlighted that the route could facilitate the flow of illicit narcotics into Assam's border districts and pose a threat to public safety.

The chief minister assured that state law‑enforcement agencies are already coordinating with central security forces to monitor the corridor closely. He urged swift action to disrupt any smuggling networks that may exploit the new pathway.

Sarma also called for heightened vigilance among local communities and border officials, emphasizing that collective effort is essential to curb the spread of illegal drugs across the region.

The statement comes amid growing concerns over cross‑border narcotics trafficking in India's northeast, where porous borders have historically been exploited by smugglers.

Authorities have not disclosed further operational details, but the CM's remarks signal an intensified focus on securing the Assam‑Myanmar frontier.
