Assam, Arunachal Resolve Most Disputes; 52 Villages Still Pending

Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have reached a consensus on most of the long‑standing border disputes, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The agreement, announced on Tuesday, addresses land ownership, resource sharing, and administrative control in the majority of contested areas. Only 52 villages remain where the parties have yet to agree on final boundaries. Both sides have pledged to work through local committees to resolve these remaining issues within the next few months.

The resolution is expected to ease tensions in the region and facilitate development projects that were stalled due to the uncertainty. Analysts say the agreement could set a precedent for resolving similar disputes in other parts of India.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the settlement was reached after extensive negotiations and that it reflects the commitment of both states to maintain peace and cooperation.
