Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled a ₹50,000 crore plan to upgrade roads, railways, ports and digital infrastructure across the state by 2029.
The Assam government today announced a ₹50,000 crore investment to modernise the state’s infrastructure over the next five years, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The funding will be allocated across several key sectors, including the expansion of national highways, electrification of rural roads, upgrading of railway stations and the development of digital connectivity hubs.
Officials say the plan aims to boost economic growth, improve connectivity between remote districts and support the state’s vision of becoming a major logistics and trade hub in Northeast India.
Implementation will be overseen by the Assam Infrastructure Development Authority, with projects expected to commence in early 2025 and reach completion by 2029.
