The Arunachal Pradesh MP highlighted shortcomings in river monitoring systems and urged a comprehensive safety review of Himalayan hydropower projects.
The Member of Parliament from Arunachal Pradesh raised concerns over the inadequate monitoring of rivers in the state. He pointed out that gaps in data collection and real‑time surveillance could hamper early warning systems for potential floods and dam failures.
The MP specifically called for a thorough safety review of all hydropower projects situated in the Himalayan region. He argued that the existing safety protocols may not be sufficient to address the unique geological and climatic challenges of the area.
"We need to ensure that the infrastructure is resilient and that emergency response mechanisms are robust," the MP said. He urged state and central authorities to collaborate on strengthening monitoring networks and updating safety guidelines.
The call comes amid growing concerns about the environmental impact of large‑scale hydropower projects and the need for better disaster preparedness in the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.
