The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the Congress party has criticised the deployment of a large security force for the survey work of the Siang hydropower project, calling it unnecessary and intimidating. Leaders said the move threatens local peace and democratic rights.
The Congress unit in Arunachal Pradesh expressed strong objection to what it described as an excessive security presence around the Siang hydropower project survey sites. Party officials argued that such deployment is not required for a routine survey and creates an atmosphere of fear among local residents.
They urged the state and central authorities to withdraw the additional forces and allow the survey to proceed under normal police protection. The party warned that continued heavy security could undermine trust between the government and the communities living near the project area.
Local activists and some civil society groups have echoed similar concerns, stating that the project’s survey work should not be accompanied by paramilitary or armed forces unless there is a clear and immediate threat. The Congress said it will continue to monitor the situation and raise the issue in appropriate forums.
