The Arunachal Congress has called for the immediate release of individuals detained for protesting the Siang river project and for all related cases to be withdrawn.
The Arunachal Congress, a regional political party in the northeastern state, issued a formal appeal today demanding that authorities free those arrested for taking part in protests against the Siang river development project.
The party said the arrests were politically motivated and that the detained activists were exercising their democratic right to dissent. It urged the state government and law‑enforcement agencies to withdraw all pending criminal cases filed in connection with the demonstrations.
The demand comes amid growing local opposition to the Siang project, which aims to harness the river’s flow for hydro‑electric generation. The Congress has pledged to continue supporting the protesters and to seek judicial relief if the government does not comply.
It announced that a written petition will be submitted to the chief minister’s office and that legal action may be pursued should the demands remain unmet.
