A mistake during the mid‑day meal at Parsis Middle School in Nalanda led to about 40 female students being rushed to Bihar Sharif Model Hospital after they consumed a dish seasoned with surf instead of salt.

During the routine mid‑day meal at Parsis Middle School in Nalanda district, kitchen staff inadvertently used surf, a cleaning chemical, in place of ordinary salt while preparing the food. The error went unnoticed until the students began to experience symptoms.

Approximately 40 girls reported nausea, vomiting and abdominal discomfort shortly after eating. School authorities immediately transferred them to Bihar Sharif Model Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care and monitoring.

State Health Minister Shravan Kumar visited the hospital, expressed concern over the incident, and announced that a strict inquiry will be launched. He promised that those found responsible for the lapse will face severe disciplinary action.

The hospital team continues to treat the affected students, and officials are reviewing safety protocols for the mid‑day meal scheme to prevent a recurrence.
