Approximately a thousand residents of Udina village in Datia district reported stomach pain, vomiting and headaches after consuming rasgullas during a Trayodashi celebration.
Datia district officials said that around 1,000 people from Udina village fell sick after the community Trayodashi program where sweet rasgullas were distributed. The incident was reported late on the evening of the festival, prompting immediate attention from local health workers.
Affected individuals complained of abdominal pain, vomiting and, in several cases, headaches. Medical teams from the district hospital were dispatched to the village, setting up a temporary treatment camp to provide rehydration and basic care.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the rasgullas may have been contaminated, although the exact cause has not been confirmed. The health department has launched a probe, collecting samples of the sweets and interviewing vendors.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid consuming any leftover sweets from the event and to seek medical attention if symptoms persist. The district administration is monitoring the situation closely and will issue further advisories as more information becomes available.
