The central government has appointed Arlekar as the full-time Governor of Tamil Nadu, succeeding the previous office‑holder.
New Delhi announced today that Arlekar has been appointed as the full-time Governor of Tamil Nadu. The decision comes as part of the latest round of gubernatorial reshuffles across the country. Arlekar will assume constitutional duties in the state, overseeing the administration and acting as the ceremonial head.
The appointment replaces the interim arrangement that had been in place after the previous governor's term ended. As Governor, Arlekar will also have the authority to summon the state legislature and give assent to bills passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
The central government has not released further details about the tenure or any accompanying portfolio changes. The new governor is expected to take oath in Chennai within the coming days.
