A student from Andhra Pradesh has created smart swimming goggles that alert visually‑impaired swimmers before they reach pool walls, aiming to reduce injuries.
A young innovator from Andhra Pradesh has designed a pair of smart goggles intended for use by visually‑impaired swimmers. The device uses sensors to detect the proximity of pool walls and provides an audible or haptic warning, helping swimmers avoid collisions.
The development was highlighted in a release by Samsung Global Newsroom, which noted the student’s effort to blend assistive technology with sports safety. While details of the underlying technology remain limited, the concept aligns with Samsung’s broader focus on inclusive tech solutions.
If adopted widely, the goggles could lower the risk of injuries in swimming programs for the visually impaired, offering a low‑cost, portable alternative to existing safety measures. Stakeholders in disability sports and adaptive equipment are expected to monitor the prototype’s performance as it moves toward commercial testing.
