The Velampeta slum redevelopment initiative in Andhra Pradesh will accommodate 177 families, as announced by officials.
The Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled plans to redevelop the Velampeta slum, creating new housing for 177 families. The project, part of a broader urban renewal strategy, will replace dilapidated structures with modern, government‑owned homes.
Officials say the new units will feature basic amenities such as electricity, water supply, and sanitation facilities, aiming to improve living standards for residents. The redevelopment will also include community spaces and improved connectivity to nearby markets and schools.
The project is slated to begin in the next quarter, with an estimated budget of ₹200 crore. Funding will come from a mix of state allocations and central government grants under the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme.
Local residents expect the redevelopment to reduce overcrowding and provide safer, healthier living conditions. The government has pledged to ensure a smooth transition for the affected families, with relocation assistance and job training programs.
