The Andhra Pradesh government announced a scheme to regularise thousands of informal houses in Visakhapatnam, aiming to provide legal land titles and curb eviction threats.
The state cabinet approved a comprehensive regularisation programme for informal settlements across Visakhapatnam. Under the plan, owners of thousands of houses built without clear titles will be eligible to receive legal land documents, reducing the risk of sudden evictions.
Officials said the scheme will involve surveying each dwelling, verifying ownership claims and issuing titles through the state's land records portal. The move is expected to bring security of tenure to low‑income families and stimulate local development.
The government has earmarked funds for the survey and administrative costs, and will coordinate with municipal authorities to ensure smooth implementation. Community leaders have welcomed the initiative, noting that many residents have lived in these homes for decades without formal recognition.
