The state government is evaluating a proposal to extend the validity of current liquor shop licences by two years, aiming to streamline renewals.

The Andhra Pradesh administration is reviewing a policy option that would allow existing liquor retail outlets to renew their licences for a two‑year period instead of the current shorter term. Officials say the move is intended to reduce administrative burden on both shop owners and the licensing department.

Sources familiar with the deliberations indicated that the proposal is part of a broader effort to modernise the state's excise framework and improve compliance monitoring. A longer licence cycle could also provide greater certainty for merchants, potentially encouraging investment in the sector.

The decision is expected to be taken after consultations with the excise department, industry representatives and other stakeholders. If approved, the revised renewal schedule could be implemented in the upcoming fiscal year.
